Our First Family

Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image….” Man made in love, beauty, and intelligence, man made for intimate fellowship with God his Father.

God made Adam then Eve – The very 1st family, and it was GOOD. All things were created for man. He had dominion over all things living and growing. God had only given man one limitation.

Adam apparently wasn’t the greatest communicator, and Eve had so much going on with her gardening and all the animals, her listening skills apparently weren’t as tuned into him as they should have been. And neither apparently used the reasoning skills they were endowed with.

So, one day because they didn’t use their mutual skills, Eve fell for the o’key-doke of one Satan the serpent (aka: tempter (tress), Lucifer, the wanna-be god, busybody, Loser, etc). Surely you know the kind. Anyway, Satan came at her with a challenge. The challenge to break the limit God had put on them to not eat of the tree of good and evil. Satan challenged their view of God to be right or wrong, he challenged the Word of God as a lie, and the ultimate challenge to them that they would not die; but instead they would be gods too knowing good and evil.

Remember everything was good, except for Satan. He was all set to wreak havoc on the perfect world that God created. Adam and Eve had everything at their fingertips for the picking. What Satan showed Eve looked so good, smelled pretty, sounded so sensible, and seemed so innocent she went for his line. Adam followed Eve. They made a choice. Choices, as we now know, have rewards or consequences. Our 1st. family was about to learn their first lesson about independent living, not heeding the promises of God who loves them.

Well Adam and Eve had their way, did the forbidden thing, and immediately their eyes were truly open. They knew that they were wrong. They were scared. For the first time Adam and Eve experienced fear. Their loving relationship with Father God was in question. They realized for the first time they were vulnerable. They stood naked facing each other and knew the shame of what they had done, and just how helpless and defenseless they really were. So they tried to hide themselves. Again mistakenly, they thought they could hide from God too. We’ve played that game too – hide and seek.

As God did every evening He came to visit His kids. “Adam, Adam where are you?” He knew all the time, but dad’s who love don’t just drop their kids because they are wrong. He sought them out, even though He knew what they did and where they were.

Adam and Eve were in trouble. They wanted things their way – out of God’s law, able to experiment. There is a price to pay when we live outside of God’s coverage. Father God could have destroyed them, right then, and started all over again. But instead He gave them a chance to come clean about what happened.

Adam answered. “I heard you, but I was afraid, cause’ I was naked so I hid myself.”

“Adam, who told you that you were naked? Adam did you eat of the tree I commanded you not to eat of?”

Now the blame game starts.

Adam answers, “The woman you gave me she gave it to me.
God asks Eve, “What have you done?
Eve is thinking, I’m not taking the whole rap for this. She answers, “The serpent deceived me, and I did eat.

Then God said to the serpent, because you have caused this mess, you are cursed and there will be hostility between you and the woman, and her seed will bruise your head. To the woman He said He would greatly multiply her sorrow, and her husband would rule over her. To the man who had dominion over all things; God said to the man, because I commanded you not to eat of the fruit; the ground is cursed because of your doing; the land will be thorny and hard to till, hard to harvest. You will labor hard to eat of it until you die. From dust you came, to dust you will return.

But God allowed them to live. In His love for them He made skins to cover their nakedness. But the 1st family had to leave the garden. They had to leave that safe, beautiful and secure place that their Father had created for them.

God gave them what they thought they wanted – independence. Today we are still drawn away from our Father for the allurement of ‘pretty, more knowledge, being gods in one way or another.’ We are still subject to our curiosity, to our need for independence, self-rule. God gives us what we want; but just as Adam and Eve did, we will always pay the cost to be the boss.

Adam and Eve, the 1st family were the groundwork for our society today. The plan of God for family was and is today to be indivisible, united, strong, in belief and actions. We have the choice today to make our homes strong and safe. To teach values that an intruder/family-crasher cannot come in and easily deceive. We have an opportunity still to live in the presence of God and to live in His perfect will for our family.

When families are united as God intended them to be, it is hard for outside forces to come between them. We can learn from the experiences of Adam and Eve. God’s plan was for them and us to grow and prosper in His love and provision for us. When we as families put God first, teaching our children the laws of God, and living in the purpose that God created each of us for – We are strong.

Families are the foundation that communities are built around. Take God our Father out of family we have chaos; limited values, diminishing respect for ourselves and others; kids killing parents, grown folks raping children, lies; deception used to benefit self. Without the value centered family communities do not turn into nations with purpose; and a nation without purpose is lost.

Keep our families strong and follow God’s command: Deuteronomy 4:5-9. See I have taught you rules and laws as the Lord my God has commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to possess. Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and understanding to the nations, who will hear about these rules and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.” What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the LORD our God is near us whenever we pray to Him? And what other nation is so great as to have such righteous rules and laws as this body of laws I am setting before you today? Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

Let us remain one nation, one community, one family as in the words in our Pledge of Allegiance of the United States of America …We are one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. And as our money states let us so put into action by building our families believe ‘In God We Trust.’

Imagine and Wonder

Some people imagine what glory will behold them at the end of this age, others wonder what it will be like to be like Jesus Christ. Well let’s see what the Bible says about this. Look at Colossians 1:15 it says He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities, all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Look at Ephesians 1:9 it says And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillmentto bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possessionto the praise of his glory.

Now look at verse 18 it says I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fill everything in every way.

Look at Ephesians 3:20 it says Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. What a Blessing to know that the One who is the most powerful is at work within us, and that His strength is in us who believe. WOW what a Blessing!!!

Now look at Romans 2:11 it says For God does not show favoritism. All who sin apart for the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

Look at Romans 16:25 it says Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey himto the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

In closing look at Colossians 1:25 it says I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullnessthe mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Hidden Riches

From a historical perspective, ‘The DaVinci Code’ is good fiction …

I do think the book has provided a very real cultural benefit, though. By weaving many tales of medieval Christian mysticism into its story line, the book has stimulated a multitude of readers to look beyond the veneer of printed words in search of higher meanings. This is good, because both literature and history contain them in abundance. The richness of the written word and the refining effects of time have produced works essential to our lives’ inner guidance.

Hopefully, more people will be inspired by this work of fiction to more fully explore other tomes that have even deeper meanings.

I’m referring to the Bible, the Torah, and the Koran.

Many of the world’s tensions have their roots in opinion leaders who espouse literal interpretations of those volumes. Even more preposterous is that many of these issues are fomented by their own self-serving versions of those interpretations. From the silly ‘War on Christmas’ campaign being waged by some religious conservatives in the USA to the tragic turf wars over perceived sacred grounds in the Middle East, power bases masquerading as pulpits exploit literal definitions of holy words to seek nothing more than an increase in their sphere of influence. It is not enough for them to sway likeminded individuals, they cannot wield sufficient power until they can alter the lives of those who have chosen a different moral path, no matter how independently righteous that path may be.

I believe an effective means of curbing this troubling tendency is to expose the shallowness of such literal espousings. And so, I would like to share an article written in 2000 by Rabbi H David Rose, entitled:

“The Literal Truth? Pondering the Variety of Interpretations in Scripture.”

It is one of the best dissertations on the subject that I have ever read.

The balance of today’s column consists of Rabbi Rose’s words:

“Dear God,” Donna wrote. “Last week it rained for five days straight. We thought it would be like Noah’s ark, but it wasn’t. I’m glad because you could only take two of each animal into the ark, and I have three cats.”

A professor of molecular biology wrote in a national magazine, “Given the dimensions of the ark and its wooden construction, the first stiff breeze would have broken it up. Its capacity was only a fraction of what was needed for the animals and their food supply, not to speak of their specialized needs for housing.”

Are the narratives in the Bible fact or fiction? Were the prophets truth-tellers, or great storytellers? Did Methuselah live upon this earth for 969 years, as we are taught in Genesis? Did Abraham send his first child, Ishmael, out into the wilderness and almost sacrifice his son, Isaac?

And is any of this relevant to us and to our lives?

Many who read the Bible do so in a literal way. For these people, be they Christian or Jew, the choice is simple: Either the Bible is the exact written record of God’s words, or it is not.

If it is God’s word, then it is to be followed exactly as written. If not, then why bother?

Others, including myself, are convinced that to read our sacred texts literally is to miss the point. To do so, in my opinion, is to corrupt and stagnate the ever-growing relevance of our holy texts.

The Zohar (a book of Jewish mysticism) teaches, “Were the Torah (Bible) a mere book of tales and everyday matters, we could compose a text of even greater excellence. The Torah has clothed itself in the outer garments of the world, and woe to the person who looks at the garment as being Torah.”

In other words, the essence of God’s message is hidden from a person who takes a literal view. The word is not the message; the message lies behind the words.

Consider the story of Noah’s ark. A literal interpretation misses the relevance and profound moral symbolism of the story, of the world flood and its implications for humanity.

The vital lesson of Noah’s story is the human capacity for self-destruction and the ability of one person to save the world. In our time, we possess the capability to quickly destroy creation through our nuclear power or to slowly and significantly damage our planet through waste and pollution. Like Noah’s generation, we are also able to corrupt the purpose of our existence through moral failure.

When we come to think that we or our creations are invincible, we soon find ourselves in deep water, just like the people of Noah’s generation. Even the most powerful of human beings must face their limits or be brought low.

The tale of Noah’s ark is about confronting both our power and our limitations as individuals and as society. The story is true not because it ever happened, but because it keeps on happening.

The Noah story is true, because it describes a drama we all face, generation after generation.

When we go beyond the literal sense of the text, we find meaning and relevance. When we can see our own struggles in the text, we can then take hold of the meaning of our sacred texts.

Rabbi Naftali Zvi Yehuda Berlin, an authority on the interpretation of the Hebrew Bible and a giant of 19th century Judaism, maintained that the entire Hebrew Bible “possesses the nature and the central character of poetry.” One must be aware of poetic allusions, metaphors and figurative expressions to appreciate the meaning of scripture.

How could it be any other way? Hardly a verse in the Hebrew Bible can be understood verbatim. Take the statement, “And God said.” Does God have a larynx? In what language did God speak?

To read Torah with the question, “Did it happen?” in our minds is to think of the wrong question. As Elie Wiesel has taught, “Not everything that happened is true, nor did everything that is true necessarily happen.”

We all have the capacity to recognize truth in art, in movies and in plays, whether they accurately portray something that really happened or not.

Imagine that two books are lying before us. The first book was written by a Dr. Smith, an eminent ophthalmologist. It describes a complicated surgery which restored the eyesight of a Ms. Jones.

Ms. Jones is the author of the second book. In this book, Ms. Jones reports her fright, her anxiety and her pain. Then she tells of her exultation after the bandages were removed and she could see again.

Should we ask which book is the truth? Each book has a different intention and shares a different perspective. The doctor’s truth is not that of the patient. A single criterion of truth creates needless contradictions. Both are true. Similarly, there is no single true way to read scripture.

Our sacred texts are sources of truth and meaning, and we must learn to open our eyes to them.

A literal viewing of our traditional books may obscure the truths within them, or worse, cause us to turn away and not look again.

Most of us learned scripture only as children. We were taught only literal explanations.

When we grew up, we outgrew such literal fairy tales and left them tucked away with the tooth fairy and other such nonsense.

As adults, our task in reading the treasures of our traditions and in living lives based on scripture is to uncover the layers of meaning. When we study, read and meditate on our sacred words, we discover their spritual implications.

May we hold on to our sacred texts, and may they guide our lives and give meaning to all that we do.

Being A Light in A Dark World.

Ever time I set down to write I always ask God what He wants me to say, for in me is nothing important. My Sermons come from the Inspiration of God. I hear on a daily basis, of many Christians in need, from the poor to the rich. People seeking aid, answers and reasons for their dilemma. I am writing a young lady with an extreme problem, I write Churches that sometimes, but most often, need revival within itself. As for the poor, Jesus said that we would always have the poor with us. There is nothing that we can do, to really help them. The shear magnitude of the problem prevents us from making a difference.

Most times there are government officials that steal the aid before it arrives to those in need. When it does arrive, Warring factions most often steal it away from those that need it and say that, “We are going to Liberate you, so we need the food more than you.” Buying food for a day or two doesn’t help them, even for a year is little to alleviate the persistent problem. We still must continue to aid where and when we can, but we must not feed them only, but address the problems.

Most of the problems around the world are controlled by one factor, mans refusal to accept Jesus as Lord and Christ. God stated that famine will encompass this world and it is coming to pass. There are so many that have been deceived and diluted into believing that there are gods many and lords many, afraid to ask questions for fear of their life, they go as a sheep to the slaughter, their head down and their throat exposed. This darkness grows by the minute and the Spirit of Anti-Christ also grows. If we cant see that the end is growing closer, then we, as the “Light of the World”, are also in darkness. Have you ever tried to look into a mirror, then close your eyes for a minute, and try to remember what you looked like? Its the same way it is with being a light, sometimes we forget what we are all about, our light gets a little softer, not as bright.

We cannot fear the darkness but we must illuminate it. When light and dark comes together, it turns gray, a little less notable, a little less recognizable and a little less helpful. Every country around the world is in the same condition and it gets worse by the minuet. When we go to bed at night some one in their daytime is being killed, starving to death, raped, murdered, sacrificed and recruited into the depth of utter darkness as a suicide bomber. The Apostle Paul stated that, Within Himself there was no good thing. Understanding our relationship with God is of the utmost importance along with the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of His word. I have made mistakes in my Ministry, and I am the first to admit it.

We are not perfect and neither can we be, until the time of Rejoicing with Jesus takes place. Even the Apostle Paul stated that He had not attained perfection but was still striving for it. But even with our faults, we must still be a light. A light in a dark world that is traveling down the road to death and destruction. In Matthew 4:16, we see the effects of being a light in a dark world; “

The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.” many are on the streets seeking after a good feeling and answers as to their purpose in life. Many have given up on trying to be a citizen of any country and only live for the day, hoping to get a bit of food from somewhere. Multitudes are blinded to the light by problems and situations that they have found themselves in. Others have been taught as a Child to not expect any thing good in this life. In Luke 1:79, we see a reason to give light in a dark world. ” To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

” To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, the darkness of sin and the shadow of eternal death without hope nor escape. A Darkness without the Father. We have read before;” Ye, thou I walk thru the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;”

The valley spoken of here is the outside world that we step into each and every day. We must be a light, if not, we may have the blood of those that we could have shown the way, on our hands. There is no super Christian, at least I haven’t seen one. We are all the light, shining together as one to open up the darkness and show the way of peace, peace not in this life but rather into the next. Matthew 6:22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. If therefore thine eye be single, meaning that ones purpose in life must be to please the Father in Spirit, without any other agenda. We are sent into the world to fulfill the will of our Father.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men (Your Testimony of Jesus.), that they may see your good works (These are the works and actions of not only of the Spirit but also of the flesh.), and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Seeking only to Glorify God and not of ourselves.)

Luke 11:35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. ( Let not your light be one of self glorification. Keeping your mission always to gain souls for Gods kingdom and not trying to set up your own.) John 1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. The darkness in this world is choking multitudes, killing them from within. The light that we shine is not accepted to many that prefer the darkness and many do not understand the willingness of a Loving God to Save them. Jesus warned us that there will come a time when the darkness of this world will be so great, that no man will be able to work.

Is that time now, or is it near. Let us always be a light, because our work shall soon be over and the night will fall. Is it so hard Being A Light in a Dark World. ars

The Power Of Vision

“Where there is no vision, the people perish …” Pro.29:18

A vision is a dream, a divine idea or a revelation from God concerning a man’s future. The main essence of man’s existence is to have something he is living for and pursuing on a daily basis: a vision. A man without vision is one who lacks direction, sees progress in life as a challenge and he always ends up frustrated.

If we are all living for something, it will be for our own good. The future will become clearer and we will be filled with hope to attend to our everyday challenges. No matter what is happening to him presently, a man with a God-given vision is never bothered because there is a picture he is carrying about that no one else is sseing but himself. Vision has a lot of benefits that comes with it and a man that has one will always be a beneficiary.

Have you ever heard that, “a man who has soemthing to live for never dies?” If you have not, please read the story of Simeon in Luke2:25-29. Vision keeps people alive even if they are right off medically. There are stories of several people that battled death to a stand still just because they have something to live for. Vision also gives meaning to life. Just because you are in a place you know you were not meant to be, will not make your life worthless if you have a vision. You will understand that where you are going is better than where you are and you are only in such a position for a while. Even when others have lost hope, yours will be increasing with each passing day. When others are giving up, you are moving on.

Another importance of vision is that it bring discipline into our lives. People with vision and those without one are miles apart. If you have a vision, you will never waste your time on things that do not matter, you will always do something that will contribute to where you are going everyday. You will understand the value of time and the type of people you hang out with. Everyday when an antelope wakes up, it knows it has to outrun the fastest lion if it has to survive the day and the lion wakes up knowing fully well that if it doesn’t run faster than the fastest antelope, hunger will be his lot for the day. This is the discipline that vision enforces on those who have vision. They just know they have to do something everyday to get to where they are going.

There is no way that you will have a vison that you won’t get to your destination. This is IMPOSSIBLE! The life you will live after you have reached your destination will be far enjoyable than if you have no vision. The vision you have now, will determine where you will be in 5 or 10 years times. I learnt that we take more time in planning our wardrobe, parties and all other smaller things than we plan our future! This is incredible but TRUE! People can deliberate for hours on how they are going to dress to a party but rarely spend minutes to plan for their future! The main reason majority of us look to the future with fear rather than hope is because we have not taken time to plan our future. A visionless future will always be trepidating.

“The world stand aside to let those pass, who know where they are going.” Do you know know where you are going? Do you have a plan for the next five years of your life? If the next five years comes, providing Jesus tarries, will you be happy with where you find yourself?

If you have never asked yourself where you want to be in years to come, there is no better time than now. Ask God to help you in reaching for a destination. He is always ready to reveal our future to us if only we can ask Him, Jer.33:3. I asked Him what he want me to do several years ago and he didn’t fail me so He will NEVER fail you if you can but ASK!

Let me end with these wonderful quotes: “Life means little without purpose. Once his life aim is gone, man simply exists – he does not really live.

“Aspiration is the hand that points us the road that runs heavenward. As your vision is, so will your life be.”

“When people have not decided their destination in life, any road can take them there. if you are not sure where you are going, then any road will take you there. determine where you want to go and be determined NOTHING will ever stop you from getting there!”

Consequences

God has moments of anger, like as do we. However, some have misconceptions about His response. There’s an unspoken law of consequences between the forces of good and evil, a result of being born into a sinful world.

In observing my daughter, as a very young child, whenever she was disobedient. If I didn’t discipline, she’d suddenly become injured or some other mishap. It was as if God was punishing her, or so I thought.

Once God gave me an example of how it really is.

Imagine yourself standing between the sidewalk and curb. Your hands are wrapped behind your back, tied to a tree. A car is coming and your child runs into the street. You’ve no physical means of reaching that child.

Hearing the speeding car, first thoughts come faster than you can verbalize, “No! The car will hurt you!”

You scream a plea, with anything you think might cause that child to change their direction, before it’s too late. That is how it is with God. Were it any other way, He’d have to take away our freedom of choice.

There are consequences for running out into the street! And, the parent is way beyond distraught even before the accident occurs, because they have a glimpse into the future.

Imagine how God must, sometimes, feel watching His children run the wrong direction. When the consequences come and we didn’t heed God’s warning, God didn’t do it to us.

Think about it. If our parents wouldn’t smack us with a moving vehicle because we didn’t obey, if you wouldn’t run over your child as punishment for not listening … we were made in the image of God and He loves us so much more. The truth is, when consequences come, there is no one else to blame. We would have done it to ourselves.

Prayer

What has the Lord been saying to me? As I begin to write and formulate this article, I am faced with the inevitable question. What is the Lord saying to you. In answer to this question, it is easy to fall into the trap of presenting a sermon on a topic that is on my heart and has been for the preceding week. Instead, I am going to attempt to answer this thought with a more informal response.

The Lord has shown me that His people were first known as :’The Ones who called upon the Lord’. In Genesis 4:26 :”And as for Seth, to him also a son was born and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.”

In Jeremiah 33:3 we read :”Call to me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know”.

God wants us to call upon Him. In the Book of Acts we read about how the apostles were all in one accord, in one place. They (the apostles) had a habit of meeting and praying daily, in one place in one accord, and thats when the building started to move, thats when the Holy Spirit descended upon them! Praise God! You see even the Apostles who had walked with Jesus, talked with Jesus, ate with Jesus, had to come together in one accord in prayer, before the Holy Spirit moved. This really ministered to me. I have seen what happens when a Church gathers in one accord, in one place in prayer. Mountain moving faith manifests, people get saved, sick get healed, and the Holy Spirit starts to move.

If we as a church would come together in one accord, we too can expect God to show up. Are you ready for the supernatural? The biggest handicap that the Body of Christ faces today is division amongst ourselves. Christ will return for a united body of believers irrespective of doctrinal beliefs and differences. We find in Acts that the disciples were in one accord , praying daily for a period of ten days. The preacher (Peter) did not have any fancy gimmicks, audio visual systems or even any training (as far as we know) in oratory presentation. What he did have was the anointing of the Holy Spirit. We read in Acts 2:41 that three thousand were added to their number.

I believe we as pastors have gone off on a tangent looking for the latest trend in either music or audio visual in an effort to gain believers into the body. While I do not deny the need to remain current in our presenting of the Word, I believe we have lost the urgency to seek the Lord with open hearts, crying out to Him. This is what brings conviction and revival. Men are convicted by the Holy Spirit and not man’s words, audio visual effects or gimmicks.

If we are to study Jeremiah 33:3 the key element in this scripture (in my opinion) is call upon the Lord. As a body of Christ today, we need more calling upon the Lord as ONE body of Christ. We have many parts, but we are one body. Lets unite as one body, and seek God with a new urgency. Hebrews 11:6 says that God rewards those that seek Him. We need to get back to a urgent seeking of God.

Chronology of the Book Of Revelation

The Book of Revelation appears to be a daunting book because it is full of imagery and seems to bounce all over time, but like an old friend, once you get to know it, it really isn’t that bad. Follow the parallels. Follow the themes. Previously, we put to rest the issue of the rapture. It is important to understand the order of events – what occurs and when. Revelation is not that hard to understand if you grasp the main theme – the testimony of Jesus Christ which is seen in his two peoples, the two witnesses: Israel and the church. Timing is important and this reinforces the timing of the rapture.

SUMMARY CHRONOLOGY OF REVELATION:

Chapter 1 The first chapter gives us a picture of the transformed, resurrected Son of Man walking among the churches. Here we see the revelation and testimony of Jesus Christ.

Chapters 2,3 The letters are to seven very different churches – both actual churches and historical prophetic churches on the earth with exhortations to each to hear what the Spirit says and to overcome.

Chapter 4 This gives us a picture of the heavens and the throne of God.

Chapter 5 It reveals the Lamb of God, the only one worthy to open the seven seals or scrolls. The scrolls reveal what is to happen in this revelation of Jesus Christ.

Chapter 6 The beginning of sorrows and the six seals deal with events which occur during the first half of the Tribulation.

Chapter 7 This shows us Israel and the Church before the throne. “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation.” (7:14) The seal protects them from the wrath of God even though they suffered and died. Israel is the first group of 144,000 (not an actual number but signifying the whole)

Chapters 8,9 The seven trumpets come out of the seventh seal.

Chapter 10 John eats the little book.

Chapter 11 This is the story of the two witnesses from the beginning of the Tribulation to the end when the final trumpet sounds, the Lord returns and the two witnesses are brought to life and caught up with the Lord.

Chapter 12 This is an expansion of what happens during the third and fourth trumpets as Satan and his minions are cast to earth.

Chapter 13 This chapter parallels the 5th trumpet (Rev. 9:1-12) describing the midpoint of the tribulation, the abomination of desolations as the beast and his minions from the underworld invade the earth and impose the mark of the beast. We see the beast coming up out of the sea. “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue and nation.” Let’s be very clear here. This is not the wrath of God, but the wrath of Satan directed against the church (as in Chapter 11)!

Chapter 14 The second group of 144,000 represents the church – “redeemed from among men.” (verse5) Here is another picture of the rapture as the earth is harvested just prior to God pouring out His wrath in the second half of the chapter.

Chapter 15 The angels prepare the final bowls full of wrath.

Chapter 16 The seventh trumpet introduces the bowls of wrath. The seventh bowl is the judgment of Babylon “Now the great city was divided into three parts and the cities of the nations fell.” (Verse 19). Babylon clearly refers to all the nations of the earth who are now under the dominance of the antichrist. The seventh bowl of wrath is the destruction of the three part empire which is covered in the next three chapters.

Chapters 17 Religious Babylon is seen riding the political beast which turns on her and destroys her.

Chapter 18 This covers the judgment and destruction of commercial Babylon.

Chapter 19 This is the final judgment of civil/political Babylon and the battle of Armageddon.

Chapter 20 This covers the Millennial reign of Christ, the final battle and then the final judgment of all mankind, the devil and his fallen angels.

Chapter 21 After judgment, we see the new heaven and new earth and the New Jerusalem.

Now, let’s go back to the seals and bring the chronology forward in some detail.

The Wise in Heart will Receive Commandments.

Proverbs 10:8

Only the Lord give thee wisdom and understanding … that thou mayest keep the law of the Lord thy God. God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom.

For the Lord giveth wisdom: When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul. Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom. That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Proverbs 14:33

Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother.

The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he. Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: He hath made every thing beautiful in his time. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart.

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And ye shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.

Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

The Heart of Him Who Hath Understanding

Proverbs 15:14

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding … When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul.

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness … For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

But without faith it is impossible to please him:
for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,
and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

Keep thy heart with all diligence;
for out of it are the issues of life.
