Posture

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Learning to observe your opponents when you play poker online is a huge part of becoming a good poker player. However, you can watch your poker online opponents all day long, but if you don’t know what to look for you’ll be playing blind. Physical tells are subtle, but if you keep an eye out, you can pick up bits and pieces of how a player feels about his poker hand. A player’s posture, for instance, can be a great indicator of how much a poker player likes his hand. Since players tend to sit in the same place for hours on end, players will move around on their seats occasionally, and occasionally, how they move will betray their emotions. In general, I’ve found that players who lean over the table are holding a pretty weak hand. Someone who leans over the table is anxious, looking for the flop (or turn, or river) to save his hand. A player who slouches or leans back in his chair usually doesn’t need to next card because he’s already made his hand. A relaxed player isn’t worried about anything, he feels like he’s already got the hand won, and unless you’ve got a monster hand, he might be right.

Missing the Flop with AK

Friday, December 4th, 2009

It seems like so many newer poker players these days do not realize that when you miss the flop with big slick, AK suited or unsuited, and you face action, you are usually behind. If your poker opponent has made any pair, if you do not have another draw besides your over cards, you are a 28% dog to any pair below yours. And yet again and again people will push their AK to the brink, going beyond continuation betting and instead pushing the hand just because it looked good to start off with.

AK is purely speculative hand. In cash games, where the amount you win or lose per hand is real money, pushing too hard with this kind of hand when it has failed to develop can get you stuck in nasty situations. Learning not to overplay AK can be difficult, but is a vital part of the learning process for any player.

Often I like to play my AK the same way I play small pairs: I make the hand or I don’t. Getting it all in with AK preflop, especially in a calling position, isn’t winning poker, not in the long run. Sure, it looks great preflop, but if you miss and your opponent bets, unless you are just bluffing, hoping to take it down without a real hand, you are grasping at straws, and in the end it will come back to bite you.

Khoom Fay Thai Lanterns a Hit

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Khoom Fay are traditional Thai lanterns, built from slim down weave paper with a bamboo frame. The heated air is provided by a hot fire cell that comes attached to the lanternThe gracefully climb up, and create a remarkable spectacle, peculiarly when released at regular time intervals to form a chain of lighters up into the sky. Night or daylight they in truth make an impact. For Daylight releases I feel that the coloured lanterns are to a greater extent taking and the night becomes a bright white glowing Thai Lantern individual view of course but i do pride myself on being 100% all of the time.Carefully unpack the Thai Lantern, without tearing the delicate paper. Ensure the lantern is not crinkled or hanging sideways and that it is amply extensive.. Holding the peak of the lantern is the best style to practice this, softly raising it a couple of feet, then acutely dropping it. The unit will blow up due to air force.Have a assistant light the wick whilst you declare the lantern vertical. The Lantern will being to feel lighter, then rise bit by bit. Just guide it and let it go by itself, do not attempt to throw it up into the air. Then stand back and relish. These lanterns are thought for use by experienced fireworks operators. Wear fire retardant wear and gloves, and have on standby a bucket of water.

Chinese Lanterns Get Popular!

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Chinese lanterns are getting ever more popular in the US as people aim for a more environmentally friendly option to fireworks. Chinese Lanterns appeal a lot to families with young children as they are a lot more peaceful and less dangerous. All that needs to be done to let off a chinese lantern is to light the attached fuel cell, and hold the lantern until it fills up with air and slowly rises into the sky. The lanterns are becoming more and more popular for events such as birthdays, weddings or other celebrations. Unlike fireworks, Chinese Lanterns allow everyone to get invovled with the lighting and releasing of them. This leads to a spectacular sight as dozens of the lanterns can be released at one time, creating a visual spectacle to rival any firework display. Price is also a factor that comes into the popularity of these lanterns, fireworks cost a lot of money, whereas a pack of 50 chinese lanterns only cost $139.99, which works out at $2.79 per lantern. There are even a number of different colors of chinese lanterns that can be chosen from. These lanterns are particularly good if you are releasing them during the day, as the color of the paper makes them stand out more in the daylight.

Intentional Tell or Not?

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

poker is a game that delights, frustrates, maddens and baffles those who play it. With so much potential to trigger so many emotions, many savvy players took for “tells” from other poker players – subtle reactions that indicate the strength or lack of power in their cards. For instance, a player who looks down at his chip stack when a raise is announced is presumably considering a call. Or a poker online player who slumps in the chair when a scare card materializes already feels beat.

And though these can be authentic signs, remember that experienced players will sometimes give off misleading tells to deceive their opponents. Always be skeptical when a player voluntarily demonstrates emotion, like a producing a hard frown before calling a raise. Or acting reluctant to enter a pot. Poker is a game of deception and players will try to portray something other than the truth.

There are however some very subtle reactions to emotion that are not voluntary or even under control. For instance, a fleeting slight grimace or nose wrinkle indicates a player does not like what has materialized. The quick eye flick at a chip stack indicates a willingness to call or raise a bet. A slightly shaky hand or throbbing neck vein cannot be controlled by a player and is a good indicator of excitement. Don’t be hasty to believe the obvious attempts at acting. Instead look for the instinct reactive twitches that tell a story about a player’s hand.

Poker and Drinking

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

One subject that I would like to broach at this current time is whether it is a good idea to drink while playing poker. Now, getting completely sloshed is not a good idea if you are trying to do anything successfully, but how bad is it too enjoy a few beers while you play? I am thinking of this now because I was at a casino playing recently, and (as you know if you’ve ever been in a casino) drinks are free for those that are gambling. The waitress comes around and asks anyone if they want a drink, and it can be hard to turn down a free beer while playing poker. Now, many pros would advise you to not drink at all when playing, if you are serious about it. “Would you get drunk at work?” they ask. If you’re a casual player, they say, it would be more acceptable to drink as you are playing not to win money necessarily but to have fun. I personally don’t believe that having even a beer or two should be completely avoided. Sure, it pays to have all of your mental faculties about you when playing poker, but having a few beers will likely not affect your judgment to a great extent. So, if you ask me, I saw drink up, but not too much now, y’hear?

Setting up Your Living Space for Online Poker

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Setting up your space for online poker play can be a preference or a necessity. How you wish to be able to click your mouse or see the game, can make a difference on how you play. In addition, how fast your internet connection can play a role in how you are able to participate in your poker game.

Your mouse becomes an important role in playing online poker. It is what you use to click on a card or make a bet. Having the proper mouse that works for you can make the experience more fun and more space saving if needed. A wireless mouse can be fun to use while playing poker online as it has no cord attached to get jumbled up as you click on that next bet and it saves space too.

The keyboard position just so could be the difference between being able to reach something and being able to type something needed to start a poker game. Just like a mouse, a keyboard can be wireless. This means no cord and being able to relax somewhere else, such as a couch or chair while you play your favorite TexasHoldem game.

Last and certainly not least is where you sit. Whether it be a chair at your desk or a comfy chair in the living, the comfort of play is up to you. Playing poker online can be made to have the feeling of personal space and having fun at the same time.
