Hypnosis CDs, do they work?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

That is the question I asked myself. I felt stressed, knew why and knew I needed to do something about it. They say recognising that you have the problem in the first place is half the battle won, so now the question posed was how was I going to totally defeat the enemy?

I remembered reading a magazine article that mentioned hypnosis and the fact that CDs and audio tapes were available over the counter. Could this be the solution I was seeking? Time for a little research. Research certainly suggested that it might work. Written testimonials were mostly positive but others had mixed feelings. A bit worrying perhaps but as time and experience would prove, there is a reason for the differing opinions on the efficacy of a particular hypnotist.

My choice, and one I am very pleased with, is a hypnotist by the name of Glenn Harrold. He has produced many titles and the reviews of his work were mostly very positive. One or two reviewers were not one hundred percent in their praise but that is to be expected. There were enough positives. Also the fact that Mr Harrold is a full Diplomate member of the British School of Clinical Hypnosis, one of the most respected organisations in clinical hypnotherapy in the UK, gives a certain amount of confidence. I have tried another very well known and respected hypnotist but his method was not for me. You need to shop around and do not be taken in by cheap imitations, you will only waste your money and more importantly be turned away from a possible solution to your problem.

My chosen CD arrived. I followed instructions, found a time when I was unlikely to be disturbed and donned the headphones. The first part of the therapy is designed to relax the individual. I knew I was stressed and tense but it was only when I listened to the calming voice and tried to follow instruction that I realised just how tense I was. Any problems? Yes. When the voice suggested that I might go to sleep, my immediate reaction was, NO I WILL NOT! I now know that I am not on my own, it is a natural reaction. You are entering an unknown world and scepticism and fear of the unknown result in your own defence mechanisms kicking in. There are two tracks on each CD and I listened to both in one go.

No, I did not go to sleep but I knew I was beginning to relax. Then on about the third listening I did go to sleep and through the depths I heard a voice telling me to wake.

So, did the therapy work? Yes, is the answer. I began to feel better but also family and friends told me they could see a change in me. Of course that positive feedback makes you feel even better. Do I still believe and do I still listen? Definitely and close family have also bought CDs.

It is said that we live in stressful times. I am not sure that our lives are more stressful than our parents or grandparents; maybe it is a different kind of stress. Life is lived at a faster pace, of that there is no argument. There is also no argument that we should find time for ourselves in our busy schedules. You may not realise how stressed you are. Take note of comments and opinions from close relatives and friends. Do not ignore the warning signs – take action before your mind and body reach the point of no return.

Suffering from Osteoarthritis? Acupuncture to the Rescue

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Keeping in tune with our commitment to providing the latest, medical breakthroughs, I recently had the rare pleasure of speaking with Professor Jorge Vas Ruiz, (Subdirector of the Master University of Acupuncture, ACMAS Huangdi located in Sevilla, Spain) regarding acupuncture’s effectiveness on osteoarthritis of the knee.

For over 8 years, Professor Ruiz and his team of elite professors have investigated the effectiveness of Acupuncture treatment. In the past two years, his work focused on a trial of 40 patients whereby acupuncture and relative therapies were applied.

The discoveries were that Acupuncture Techniques relatively proceeded to exceedingly heighten internal healing organisms. Professor Ruiz writes, “The art of traditional Chinese Medicine categorized Osteoarthritis as ‘Bi Syndromes,’ Blockages in Qi energy circulation, which results in ill health.”

From Ancient Widsom, analgesic properties were founded through points of acupuncture. Numerous studies have demonstrated which nervous system neurotransmitters and natural antigens respond to the stimulus of Acupuncture; and how the analgesic effectiveness of acupuncture fine tunes the peptide pathways and allows natural opiote substances into the undefined gray areas. In the case of Osteoarthritis, acupuncture has effectively reduced and alleviated pain improving mobility of the joints, and finally, increasing the quality of life and overall wellbeing.

Recognizing which treatment is greater for the majority as opposed to surgery, our Investigation demonstrated that acupuncture is a good treatment for arthritis of the knee. Normally, 10-12 repetitive treatments are a necessary process depending on seriousness. Normally, patients did not require treatment past 6 months.

Dr. Ruiz further explained that, “…Leading trials from patients affected by chonic neck pain were completed just a month ago and should have published results shortly. Another trial centered on acupuncture’s effectiveness on shoulder pain involving 500 patients is set to begin in one month as well.”

In closing, Professor Ruiz elaborated that, “Overall, the process of osteoarthritis responds well to acupuncture. Depending on one’s initial stage of arthritis, this medical treatment can effectively help with pain and inflammation.”

Professor Jorge Vas Ruiz is the Subdirector for, ACMAS Huangdi a practicing and teaching university of Acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine. His research has been featured on several medical media journals, including the British Medical Journal.

Believe it or Not – Algebra Is Good for You

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

It is algebra that we employ to get our daily things done. The mankind forever continues counting, measuring, dividing, and multiplying.

History of Algebra

Invented in the first millennium BC, algebra has its sources in the middle-east. The ancient geniuses applied algebra for solving day-to-day problems while the Asian or rather Chinese counterpart applied geometry for the same purpose

The Nature of Algebra

Algebra is not just for solving formulas, it helps, simplifying rational expressions, and converting fractions to decimals, algebra is one of the sciences that has the to the highest degree of applicability when it comes to the real world. Since this view has been understood, the education system pressures us to learn algebra from the inception of our student life.

Algebra I

The pupils are given an introduction in this study course to numbers, solving linear equations, graphing systems of linear equations, graphing linear inequalities, laws of exponents, solving fractional equations, and factoring polynomials. This is the groundwork level course of study for all the other levels of algebra.
If a pupil is keen on studying algebra down to its roots, then this is a subject field course of study that should be tackled well.

Algebra II

Once the students are sound with Algebra I concepts, Algebra II can be taken up for expanding the spectrum of this fantastic section of mathematics. There are two views of Algebra II; emphasizing more on the topics studied in Algebra I and introduction to new concepts. When it comes to the new introductions, adding and subtracting matrices, quadratic functions, solving exponential equations, probability and statistics are fundamental.
In this plane of study, pupils are supposed to focus more on the kernel concepts.

College Algebra

This is one of the most crucial stages of learning Algebra with nearly no new topic presented. I assume it is quite funny, but this is the nature of maths. Do you know why maths is called the queen of all scientific disciplines ? That’s because of the unforeseeable nature of maths!

Help!!!

There are many methods and tools available for getting help for Algebra disciplines. The first and the foremost crucial source is an Algebra instructor from whom you can get help and assistance.
In addition to the above methods, one should never undervalue the use of Algebra software that is especially designed to solve algebraic problems with illustrative steps. This software package really brings insight in to Algebraic operations of solving equations , by providing pupils to simply watch and learn through good examples.

The Healing Arts: 18 Things Healers Learn, #9; You Work With the Unseen

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Everything that has come to be in this moment is a by-product of everything that has ever been. It’s inescapable. The future begins right here inside you, and it is based on the contributions of every human who has ever lived.

You could not be who you are, were it not for all that has come before you. Like the ocean wave that laps up onto the shore, you are the culmination of many forces meeting, affecting each other, and then moving on.

Wow, isn’t that deep! Perhaps an easier way to say it is at any one time, we only get to see an infinitesimally small portion of anything. So much has gone on to get to each instant it’s incredible! So much so that you get to wonder how we seem to know anything at all with the amazing limitations of our fleeting perception.

Tomorrow, this article will just be one of innumerable influences on your life. Perhaps it will have lasting value to you. Perhaps not. Who we are is a product of accumulated experiences just like that. Based on this, it would appear none of us would really be able to understand another because, on the surface, each of us is composed of moments that the others have not seen.

Yet we all know this is not the case. When someone teaches you a lesson of some sort, you are taking their experience of their moments and running it through the filter of your experience of your moments. Through that, based on a commonality drawn from symbols you can understand, you can then weave the experience into the fabric of your life.

As example, Moby Dick is a story of Captain Ahab’s obsession with a foe. We all can relate to the account of his experience because, in essence, we are ALL experiencing the same story; we’re just getting it through different symbols.

What Melville did was to take the personal story of a man’s obsession which exists in the “unseen” as a universal drive and gave it physical character in the form of the written word; the “seen”. The resulting book holds the history of a life that never was, as told through the mouth of someone who has never been. Still, we embrace the work and praise it for shedding light on areas of our psyche that have been hidden in shadows. Within his creation, we recognize ourselves.

Where did all this come from? Nowhere. Dollars to doughnuts, Melville was just immersed in telling a particular story, the universality of it came as a by-product.

Moby Dick is now something that is part of the psyche of everyone who has ever read it, yet none of us has ever seen the things happening that were described. The unwitnessed, however, has been seen in the mind’s eyes of the readers. And from that comes a bit of a miracle, for as an extension of that imagined experience comes something (seemingly) brand new. Just look at all the books that have been written about Melville and Moby Dick, each offering insights into the piece as well as life itself!

Whatever insights were gained have been around since before any of the books were ever written. If translated into languages that existed before Melville had been born, and read by the people of that time, chances are the universal message would still come through. That’s the unseen Melville worked with, and that’s what we’re working with. In every moment.

A metaphor is defined as “One thing conceived as representing another; a symbol.” Healers, in order to be effective with all whom they are called to affect, understand that each of us are living out a metaphor for the experience of life.

Essentially, we are all experiencing the same thing, only through different metaphors that are determined by genetic, social, geographical, economic, spiritual, (and on and on) influences.

At its root, this is an attitude of inclusion rather than separation. It’s knowing that whatever is seen by the other, if subject to a bit of translation, can be seen by you.

Still, it’s not that easy to either attain or maintain. That’s because sometimes the metaphor in front of you is so obscured by the difference in symbols that you’ve learned to embrace that, no, you really can’t “get it.”

But if you work hard enough at it — and that means allowing yourself to get in touch with what lives deepest inside of all of us; that we only wish to live — then you have a universal common-ground from which to begin a healing moment with another being.

Arthritis: Benefits of a Natural Approach

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

It is not uncommon for an arthritis sufferer to have varying degrees of more than one type of arthritis. Regardless of the type of arthritis, the end result is pain and inflammation at the sight of affliction. This fact has led to the popularity of over-the-counter and prescription medications to combat inflammation, and thus diminish pain. Medicines such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs come with long term side effects, including a worsening of the arthritic condition. They work by interfering with hormone-like compounds called prostaglandins.

For decades, medical researchers, including those with the Arthritis Foundation itself, refused to acknowledge that diet, nutrition, and allergies could play a role in immune function and arthritis. Today however, studies have shown that arthritis can be reversible, and in some cases, curable with proper diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes. These changes can not only relieve the inflammation and pain but stop degeneration and rejuvenate the affected joints.

Unlike toxic drugs, natural therapies and diet modification can often provide relief from chronic inflammation and pain. One of the most compelling reasons for using natural therapies in arthritic conditions is that while some drugs can cause cartilage destruction, natural therapies correct the underlying factors involved in arthritic cartilage degeneration. Natural therapies have been shown to perform by the following mechanisms:

  • Attracting water to the cartilage locations to enhance synovial lubrication.

  • Inhibiting COX-2 (enzyme responsible for prostaglandins and inflammation)

  • Suppressing cartilage-destroying enzymes, collagenase and phospholipase

  • Suppressing TNF-alpha, IL-1b, and IL-6 (cytokines, responsible for systemic inflammation and hypersensitivity)

  • Inhibiting the formation of PE2 (inflammatory compound)

  • Promoting the synthesis of proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans in the joints

  • Reducing production of LTB4 (facilitates IL-1b and IL-6)

The principle keys for treating and preventing arthritis is proper diet and nutrition, detoxification, stress reduction and exercise. As it is with most programs, there is no single treatment that is right for everyone. Since there are different forms of arthritis, there is not a single prescription that will help all sufferers. The treatment needs to be tailored to fit the individual. It is for this reason that we would like to provide the different modalities that are available and that have had great success with arthritis.

Spontaneous Healing – Confronting and Beating Terminal Illness

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Spontaneous healing has been seen by many medical doctors who have seen or heard about at least one patient with a supposed terminal condition such as cancer, and who miraculously recovered.

Spontaneous healing cannot be explained by conventional medicine which perceives ‘illness’ as separate from ’self’

This means illness can only be treated with outside agents such as surgery, pills, radiation, chemotherapy and a host of other medicines.

This a limited view of illness and other inputs need to be factored into the equation.

Body and mind are linked

Illness and the immune system need to be seen in the context our whole self. Our mind and our body are not separate, but interwoven and work together and influence each other.

The mind is not separate from the body and our moods and personality have an important impact on the healing process.

We have all heard stories of people who died, because they simply lost the will to live.

It is therefore obvious that if we have a will to live, our odds of recovery from any illness will improve dramatically.

The healing process

Improving our diet, our over-all health and our immune system contributes to the healing process and improves and impacts on our chances of recovery.

The process of healing is unique for everyone and no two individuals are exactly alike what works for one person may well not work for another.

You must use the techniques that are right for you. To maximize your body’s ability to heal, you must know yourself and build your healing plan around self knowledge.

Our body has great potential to heal itself.

Thousands of cases of ’spontaneous’ healing from serious life-threatening disease have been recorded and some people who “should” die didn’t.

The ability of some people being able to survive can be put down to spontaneous healing and the influence of the whole self mind and body to combine and fight and overcome insurmountable odds.

With the renewed interest in the relationship between self and illness, many scientists and physicians have begun to study spontaneous healing from untreatable ‘diseases.

By doing so they hope to use this knowledge so it can be used to aid the healing process in others.

People who survived untreatable diseases with spontaneous healing tend to have certain things in common listed below:

1. They have a strong belief in their body’s ability to heal in spite of sometimes confronting insurmountable odds.

2. They assume responsibility for their health and recovery and don’t necessarily belief everything the experts are telling them. Some are told they are guaranteed to die but they refused to accept their fate.

3. Many people undergo a ’spiritual transformation’ – and find the joy to want to live more than ever before this re-awakening brings new meaning to their lives. Once spontaneous healing has occurred, they reflect on their illness as a blessing that transformed their mood personality and outlook.

4. People who have undergone spontaneous healing tend to have better more meaningful relationships with others.

5. People who undergo spontaneous healing tend to reassess their lives, making very significant changes to their diet, life-style, aims and aspirations making them feel better and derive more from life.

6. You are what you eat and many people who recover ditch the junk food and bad diet forever, moving towards a more healthy diet and lifestyle.

7. People who have experienced spontaneous healing enjoy life more; maybe only people who have been close to death can really appreciate the gift of life.

Man is more than the sum of the parts of the physical body.

He has both psychological and spiritual components.

The above traits clearly show that the mind is involved in overcoming illness.

Spontaneous healing refers to those situations where the body recovers its wholeness when normal body healing mechanisms have been exhausted and medicine fails, it is here the whole self comes into play:

A union of mind and body working together to achieve the healing process.

Learning How to Treat Anxiety Disorders and Finding Natural Panic Attack Remedies

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

With over 19 million adults affected by them, anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental illnesses in the United States. There are many different types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder and panic attacks, to name a few, but all of them produce symptoms of excessive fear and dread and can be debilitating to those who suffer from them. Learning how to treat anxiety disorders requires time, practice and patience because in almost all cases, anxiety is best treated by behavioral therapy and not by prescription medication.

Panic attacks are a particularly disabling kind of anxiety disorder. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Panic Disorder is characterized by repeated episodes of intense fear that occur frequently and without warning. Panic attacks can last anywhere from a couple of minutes to over a half hour. Most people who suffer from panic episodes usually experience sweating, trembling, rapid heart beat and shortness of breath, and can sometimes also experience chills, cramps, hot flashes, nausea and dizziness.

Panic Disorder is most effectively treated with a combination of psychotherapy and learned relaxation techniques. Many researchers believe that panic attacks are tied to the body’s natural “fight-or-flight” response to danger, and learning to recognize the physiological sensations that accompany this response is an important first step in anxiety relief. Therapy can also focus on identifying the irrational fears that produce attacks (fear of dying, fear of embarrassment…etc) and teaching coping skills. Relaxation and imagery techniques are also commonly taught to help those who suffer from Panic Disorder to alleviate symptoms of panic attacks while they are experiencing them. In all cases, exercises and techniques taught in therapy must be practiced daily in order to be truly effective.

While prescription medication is not usually an appropriate treatment for Panic Disorder, there are natural treatments for anxiety which have been used safely and effectively for centuries to treat symptoms of anxiety. Lavender (or Lavendula Augustifolia) is on of the most popular popular panic attack remedies and is used for its calming properties and its role as a general nervous system tonic. Passion Flower and Lemon Balm are other excellent natural anxiety and panic attack treatments.

If left untreated, Panic Disorder can intensify to a crippling degree and leave some sufferers fearful of even leaving home. Professional help and a true commitment to battling the disorder are necessary components in your ability to overcome your anxiety and to begin to lead a less anxiety-ridden, healthier life.

Support the Natural Shape of your Body with the Purchase of an Adjustable Bed

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Sleep is necessary for the human body to function properly and often it’s difficult to wake feeling rested and refreshed from your evening slumber. Choosing the right bed is very important and can determine the type of rest obtained during your normal sleeping hours. Retailers have several options available to the public for purchase and one of which is the adjustable bed.

Adjustable beds support the body’s natural shape; therefore, sleep is more likely and the body wakes feeling rested. These beds allow you to alter the sleeping position. At the touch of a button, you can adjust the bed into several positions and find the position that’s just right for you, where as the conventional mattress requires you to place pillows behind you to prop you up, or under the knees to relieve pressure from your back. It simply takes more effort to obtain a comfortable position. Adjustable Beds allow you to face the coming day feeling rested and refreshed. That is a far more positive experience than waking with that achy feeling you get from lack of sleep.

Many people who own an adjustable bed enjoy it’s functions because it’s simply more relaxing when they want to watch TV or maybe even read a good book. The ability to naturally sit in the reading position allows relaxation to come easily and it’s like having a comfortable recliner right in your bedroom. At times there’s nothing more relaxing than a good book right before you fall asleep or the ability to relax while you watch your favorite TV show.

Many combinations can help relieve stress and discomfort from back problems. Often the adjustable bed manufacturers place their focus on the fact that these beds can be adjusted to a person’s natural shape and promote healthy circulation. Maybe you prefer sleeping at a slight incline, with the upper body slightly higher than the lower; or you prefer to add some support to your knees as to bend them slightly at an angleit’s merely a matter of preference.

People who suffer from back problems have to be especially careful when choosing the bed they sleep on. It is important to keep in mind the type of mattress, paying close attention to its firmness or lack there of, as well as keep in mind the bed’s over all ability to support the human body while it sleeps. Often people who have had back surgery or suffer from other back conditions find comfort sleeping in a recliner because the position relives pressure from the afflicted area. Many people with such ailments opt for an adjustable bed. Though no real research exists supporting the fact that the adjustable bed is best for such conditions, it is thought that the bed’s ability to support the natural flow of the body provides some relief.

Adjustable beds are often a great asset to the elderly. Hospitals and nursing homes purchase adjustable beds for every day use for their patients because it allows patients to get in and out of bed easily. In home use of the adjustable bed reaches the same result. Whether you are someone who suffers from a back condition, have had back surgery, or are simply searching for a great night’s rest, it is a reasonable consideration to consider purchasing an adjustable bed.
