Build Your Website With A Search Engine Friendly Design

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

A good looking and user friendly website is an extremely important asset to your success on the Internet. However without traffic, even a well designed site will not produce results for you. The best websites are those that are both attractive and easy to use by your human users, and at the same time, convenient for the search engine robots that are trying to find and collect data from your site.

Oftentimes a site that may look good to your eye has some design flaws that impair its search engine friendliness. Here are a few things to look for when designing new sites or optimizing an existing site.

1. Where does your first line of text begin? You may think, “that’s easy, the first line of text is right at the top?” If you view your web page using Notepad or the html view of popular editors you may be surprised to find that the first line of your actual searchable text may be pushed down, 100 lines or more, by long strings of java script and by the html code that defines your tables.

The higher your text appears in this html view of the site, the easier it is for the robot to find it and put it in the search engine data base. You can save space in your html code by copying your java script and placing it in an external file uploaded to your server. Instead of having 50 lines of java script commands in your html code, there will only be one line pointing to the separate file with the java script.

Similarly if you simplify your table structure, your searchable text will become more prominent. The left-hand navigation bar, for example, with its separate graphic elements each in its own row, may be a place where you can economize on your code by merging the rows into one cell.

2. Is your website graphics-predominant, at the expense of searchable text? If your site begins with a splash page, such as a lovely page-filling picture of the ocean and no text except, “enter here”, then you are wasting a big opportunity. Search engines consider your main page, the one you reach when you land at www.yourcompany.com, to be the most important page. Your main text with its important keywords should be on your first page. If you already have splash page, you should consider scrapping it altogether, or at least adding a paragraph with a powerful capsule description of your activity.

If your site has a flash-only first page then the text message on that page is not visible, except for what you are able to put in your title and description tags. Search engine robots cannot read the text message that has been put in the form of a flash movie. If you want to use flash, and also do well in search engine rankings it is better to make a hybrid page where the flash is surrounded by a normal html page with text. The text around the flash movie should be optimized so that the page ranks well in search engine queries for your important keywords.

3. Have you unknowingly rendered important text as a graphic? If your site is about “wireless widgets made in California” then you would want some prominent text near the top of the page with these words. You may already have it but the text has been changed into a beautiful gif or jpg graphic either by your designer or by your html editing program. Search engines will not give that nice-looking graphic the same importance as it would text written as an H1 or H2 header. Some popular html editors render entire paragraphs as gif graphic images. All the text that appears in the image becomes almost invisible to the search engines. I say almost invisible because you can always put an alt text for any graphic, however this alt text is not weighed as heavily as normal text set as bold or in headers. So, check your pages and make sure that your text is normal text and not an image.

4. Can Search Engines Follow Your Site’s Link structure? If your site employs a drop-down menu that is run with java script, then search engines may find your main page, but they won’t follow the links to your interior pages. Similarly if your navigation area is an image map, a graphic with “hot spots” that link to your various internal pages then the search engines cannot and will not find the other pages of your site. To get maximum traffic it is imperative to have as many of your pages as possible indexed in the big search engines. You can accomplish this by adding a text-based navigation area at the bottom of your pages or a site-map page with text links to all your interior pages.

If you pay attention to these design considerations, you can greatly improve your site’s chances of appearing near the top of search results.

Not Just a Diary

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I don’t have a blog other than these articles on www.blog.m6.net which is the blog site of the company that I work for. I’ve started a few, same as I’ve started to keep a diary a few times, but I just don’t stick with them. Perhaps deep down I doubt anyone cares about my day-to-day life, and I’m not anxious to post my deep and intense innermost feelings. I don’t wear my heart on my sleeve, and I don’t want to post it on the Internet.

However, for those of a blogger bent who want to share their lives with others, it’s an excellent idea. You can share your life with the world, letting people on other continents know what it’s like to live where you live, and what it’s like to be who you are. Blogs are good for non-bloggers too, letting people on the other side of an issue, or a war, or the planet, read about what life is like on your side. A few years ago I met a woman with a terrible secret which sounded like some insane conspiracy theory. I tried to organize a blog for her since she wanted to share her information, and because I wanted to hear about any further developments. Sadly, I was unable to set it up that day and subsequently lost touch with her.

Oddly enough, blogs have grown beyond being a window into the blogger’s life, becoming more in the realm of entertainment. A blogger friend of mine won’t be able to write in her blog for two weeks. If it were just a diary she could just say, ‘See you in two weeks’. Instead, she is having two guest bloggers fill in. Isn’t a guest blogger like putting two chapters of someone else’s autobiography in the middle of your own? I assume that the guest bloggers will give a window into THEIR own lives, and I suspect, they’ve already proven themselves to her in their own blogs, so her ‘readers’ could simply read their blogs for two weeks. Clearly blogs are more involved than I realized.

Blogs can make you famous or let you be anonymous. You can vent your concerns about yourself to an anonymous world. Or, you can get help from strangers who may judge you but won’t be able to tell anyone you know what their judgment is. This is of course unless your friends read your blog, which I consider as part of the point of having a blog. Then they will read your venting, and any strangers’ replies to it no matter how judgmental they are. On the other side of the equation, your friends can help without you having to go through the trauma of telling them directly. Plus, any of the strangers reading your blog might notice something wrong that you aren’t aware of. A medical student might tell you what the tingling in the soles of your feet might mean so that you can consult a doctor before it gets more serious. A German housewife might notice that alcohol features more and more in your life, or that you seem to be shifting between joy and sorrow with worrying regularity. More than a window on someone’s life or simple entertainment, blogs are another way to connect with both friends and strangers, anywhere, anytime.

Divorce Advice: Getting Divorce Advice From the Right Source

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Getting the right type of divorce advice depends on what type of divorce advice you want and what you want to use it for. When looking for divorce advice, it is smart to clearly define what you are seeking the advice for so you can be sure to look in the right places.

Seems simple enough right?

Yes, but…lots of people who are deciding about divorce and seeking divorce advice lump the categories of divorce advice into one, and that’s a big mistake. You should seek divorce advice from different types of places for the different types of advice that you need. Certainly there’s more types of divorce advice categories, but here’s a partial list:

Divorce advice type 1:

Legal advice for getting a divorce when you are sure that you want a divorce, no matter how tough it will be to get that divorce.

When asking for this type of divorce advice while meeting with an attorney, you may be asked if you’re certain that you actually do want a divorce…if you do, don’t waver, stick to your decision. It makes sense to have a good idea of all of the parts of your life, family and materials, that could be affected or sought after. You want to have your facts, account names, timelines, etc., in mind when meeting with the attorney so that your discussion is maximized.

Divorce advice type 2:

Legal advice for getting a divorce when you are almost sure that you want a divorce, but want to make sure that the financial considerations are in order or that health of your children won’t suffer in the long run.

When asking for this type of divorce advice, you may want to consider seeking the advice of an attorney or financial planner for the financial considerations and a counselor experienced in family matters for the impact that a divorce might have on your children. The point is, split the two concerns up so that you get the chance to speak to 2 different people who specialize in each area so that you will get the appropriate divorce advice.

Divorce advice type 3:

Legal advice for getting a divorce in a case that is relatively simple and will be a clean break, no financial or other family considerations to take into account for the divorce.

This is perhaps the easiest type of divorce advice to get because it infers that you have already made the decision from an emotional standpoint and really don’t have any other considerations of deep concern. When seeking this type of divorce advice, you most likely have limited financial considerations, a prenuptial agreement, or the situation itself as amenable to everyone and you just need someone to do the paperwork.

Divorce advice type 4:

Legal and/or counseling advice regarding whether or not divorce is right for you from a psychological, emotional and financial perspective.

When asking for this type of divorce advice, you may want to consider seeking the advice of an attorney or financial planner for the financial considerations and a counselor experienced in Clinical Psychology and “personal-life” coaching for the impact that a divorce might have on you. Again, the point is, split the two concerns up so that you get a chance to speak to 2 different people who specialize in each area so that you will get the appropriate divorce advice.

Divorce advice type 5:

Counseling for emotional support when deciding whether or not you really want a divorce or are just unhappy in your marriage due to a marriage problem.

This type of divorce advice is crucial to your happiness because when you’re in an emotional state, it is tough to make lucid and rational decisions. And, if you’re wrestling with deciding whether or not to get a divorce (purely from an emotional perspective), you should do all you can to make a logical decision because how you approach this decision and the affects afterwards can be long lasting and far reaching. If you’re are struggling with finding divorce advice, you may want to talk to friends, counselors, even other family members.

But, my divorce advice to you is, do it yourself.

I’m not saying don’t talk with friends, counselors, and possibly family. What I am suggesting is that you reach the final decision of whether to get a divorce on your own, you have to live with it, no one else. The answer is inside you, you just have to get it out in a logical manner.

Whatever type of divorce advice you need, be sure that you’re directing your energies in the right direction. If you don’t separate the emotional aspects from the legal aspects of divorce advice, you might end up confused and unable to get the most out of any meeting you may have with an attorney or marriage counselor. At the end of the day, you should control your own destiny and make a smart decision based on logic, controlled emotion, and forward thinking.

Make Your Sales Copy Believable

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

You read all kinds of articles telling you which power words and
“triggers” to use in your sales copy. These words are assumed
to be “magic bullets” that will immediately put your prospects in
the mood to buy whatever you’re selling.

How could anyone fail to purchase your “amazing” product that’s
“proven” to “explode” their sales, especially when they can try it
“free”?

Do they work? Yes and no. We all know there are certain words
and phrases that will get our attention and this, of course, is what
we want to do with our ads. Before we can hope to sell anything
to anyone we have to get our market to read what we have to
say. These “magic bullets” do this.

But there’s one ingredient sales copy must have if it’s to be
successful ~ it must be believable. You can fill your copy with all
the “triggers” you want but if it doesn’t ring true it will fail.

Hype won’t cut it . . .

The climate on the Internet is one of skepticism. Why wouldn’t it
be? We all get bombarded with hundreds of ads every day. Each
one claims to provide the best, “can’t live without” product,
program or service ever known to mankind. Each of them promises
to solve our problems; make us wealthier, healthier, happier or
wiser.

Now let’s get real here! Think about how you react to these
messages. Most of the time you’re thinking, “yeah, right”, aren’t
you? Why would your prospects be any different?

How about a little honesty?

Our mothers always told us, “Honesty is the best policy”. Nowhere
is that truer than in copywriting. It isn’t enough to claim that your
product is the best thing since sliced bread, you have to show
proof that it is.

And what’s more, you have to include that proof right up front.
Don’t hide it way down in the body of your sales copy somewhere.
Always fire your biggest guns first. If you write a headline that
not only makes a claim but also provides proof of that claim,
you’ve got a winning combination.

Let me give you an example. Which of these headlines would you
be more likely to respond to?

“Sore Muscles Slowing You Down?”

or

“What Do Olympic Athletes Use for Sore Muscles?”

In the second example, you’ve built immediate credibility for your
product. If it’s used by people whose careers depend on them
being in top form, wouldn’t it solve your problem?

Give them something they can believe . . .

Everyone is searching for something or someone they can believe
in. If your competition is trying to dazzle the market with hype and
you offer a believable alternative that strikes a chord with your
prospects, who will end up the winner?

The next time you sit down to write sales copy, give it the litmus
test . . . is your claim something you would believe or is it just
another example of overblown hype? Provide your prospective
customers with a solution they find believable and your sales will
“explode” with “amazing results.”

Setting up Your Living Space for Online Poker

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Setting up your space for online poker play can be a preference or a necessity. How you wish to be able to click your mouse or see the game, can make a difference on how you play. In addition, how fast your internet connection can play a role in how you are able to participate in your poker game.

Your mouse becomes an important role in playing online poker. It is what you use to click on a card or make a bet. Having the proper mouse that works for you can make the experience more fun and more space saving if needed. A wireless mouse can be fun to use while playing poker online as it has no cord attached to get jumbled up as you click on that next bet and it saves space too.

The keyboard position just so could be the difference between being able to reach something and being able to type something needed to start a poker game. Just like a mouse, a keyboard can be wireless. This means no cord and being able to relax somewhere else, such as a couch or chair while you play your favorite TexasHoldem game.

Last and certainly not least is where you sit. Whether it be a chair at your desk or a comfy chair in the living, the comfort of play is up to you. Playing poker online can be made to have the feeling of personal space and having fun at the same time.

Preservation and Storage of Perishable Foods and Medicines

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Preservation of bio-degradables is an important aspect. Traditionally Sun drying of pulses and some vegetables constituted preservation. Sunlight not only removed maximum moisture but also its UV rays killed micro organisms facilitating longer shelf life. An advantage of Sun drying is that the natural taste would return upon reconstitution.

Air and water tight packing in polyethylene/PVC lined aluminium foils and aluminium lined tetra packs provide advanced protection from atmosphere. The sea food, meat, pulses etc. can be packed with natural freshness. When stored in deep freezers, these would retain their natural freshness for longer periods. One aspect to note with such packing was that asceptic cleaning or sterilization was difficult in large scale production.

Food grains, in large quantities may be exposed to nuclear(gamma) radiation which destroys micro organisms, germs and rodents. Bhaba Atomic Research Center in India has developed a technic for exposing the food to such radiations. This is now in effective use and is proven a boon for mass scale storage and longer shelf life.

However human organs, corpses or dead pets etc. were stored in cryogenic state(upto -180 degree Celisus produced by LN2), a technique not suitable for vaccines.

Freeze drying removes water content upto 98% (depending on duration of freeze drying) while retaining nature of ingredients.

The argument against freeze drying is that it is destructive of tissue structure and leaves the dried food with a woody texture formed due to ice crystal growth during freeze drying. The leftover moisture leads to deterioration after a few years. Structural deterioration due to porous surface left behind by ice crystals worsen the things.

However, these technical problems can be overcome by common table sugar which inhibits ice crystal growth as well as prevents denaturation.Brine shrimps, nematods, seeds are lyophilized(freeze dried) in presence of sugars to prevent complete desication. Structural decay may be taken care off by chemical fixatives like formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde and storing in oxygen in water tight and air tight containers.

The post production sterilization or autoclaving of containers of injectables being not possible in most cases, freeze drying comes to the rescue. The rise and fall of temperature and pressure being absent in lyophilization, keeps the nature of fluids intact. The freeze dried products can be stored at room temperature.

The principle of freeze drying is sublimation. Meaning that, under low pressure(0.06 atm) or vacuum, solid water converts directly to gaseous form.

The disadvantage with cryogenic preservation is the enormous cost over long periods. But liquid nitrogen(cryogenics) has its own advantage that it prevents frozen tissues from suffering from other water and oxygen dependant deterioration.

The author Rajgopal has been writing on technical matters and in this avtar he gave up tags that confine to particular genre of writing. Rajgopal is a mechanical engineer and served the pharmaceutical industry. Oflate he has been putting his efforts in to creative art and healthcare writing. Large Companies Get Ready to Dominate Gaming Notebooks Market Too

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Gaming laptops used to only be attainable from select manufacturers. Regardless of the fact they weren’t good sellers they did have enormous mark ups. The cost was just too big to justify purchasing these types of laptop computer for the masses. I reckon they weren’t the most practical however I still think they were the best laptop computers. Although they did get everybody excited I do not think they sold well because not many people really buy laptop computers that are above the average point. Sales will improve though now that bigger manufacturers are entering the market.

I think they could categorise it as a premium product and make a lot of money on these especially with their economies of scale. This can be one of the few profit generating ranges they have as they make tiny amounts on the majority of others because of the large competition. Big manufacturers would certainly find it simpler to get prospects to buy these laptop computers. What could little resellers possibly do if their prices are undercut? This formerly exclusive technology is basically going to be directed at everybody now. In addition customers just appear to trust larger brands more.

With that these laptops are in addition considered to be the best laptop computers already, even if they really are not. This is one opportunity the littler system builders need to apply to their advantage. Consumers like the ability to customise as they can select what is most important to them. Usually this kind of prospect is in the know in regards to the tech specs and can effortlessly compare configurations. Often these kinds of buyers are to a greater extent partial to the power than the styling.

From a consumer position this is all a positive situation. One plan that the local retailers might employ is to trim margins in to sell more units. Even though I say that, I’m not actually confident with my claims. New product introductions should uphold high prices. We will discover what we can look forward to from the gaming laptop sectors giant players.

This web site (http://www.rizeon.com) is providing some great gaming laptops at very cheap prices.

Will This Be Your First ‘How-to’ Report?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

You’ve got to start somewhere, but once you’ve created your very first How-To report and learned to develop your own research
tactics – life will never be the same again. You can write a report on almost any topic you like, providing you have knowledge of the
subject through personal experience or research.

There are loads of subjects to choose from. How about; solving household problems, hobbies, leisure activities,
social activities, science, psychology, computer problems, mon~ey-making/saving, gardening – the list is endless.
Simple, basic, informative reports.

These reports are written guidelines that give the reader more information on a subject he/she wants to know more about.
You’ll find that the better selling reports are well researched, authoritative, factual and helpful to the reader in the
achievement of his/her goals. Your report can be 2 or a 20 page document – it doesn’t matter, so long as it contains the
information they want. Writing your report can be very easy. However, it does take longer for some than it does for others,
even if they are equally intelligent and knowledgeable.

Picking a subject to write about, one that has sales appeal, is not as hard as it sounds. Just go to any search engine and
type-in your chosen subject and you’ll soon see if it’s popular or not. You will also find less popular niche subjects as well,
to exploit. However, you will need to attract the right customers. Though, choosing the right keywords to attract your targeted
prospects is for another report and not this one.

If you don’t want to spend months researching your subject, pick something that has a particular interest to you, something
you already know a great deal about. Your knowledge and enthusiasm will show through, causing your reader to over
look any technical writing weaknesses you may have.

Be factual and clear and don’t pad out the report just for fill. Try to outline the report before you start writing the main body.
That way, you know exactly what you’re going to write about before you get too deep into the subject and end up doing loads
of re-writes.

Everything that’s written should have a natural beginning, a body and an ending. When writing your report, make it sound as though
you are talking to someone on a one-to-one basis. Keep it warm and friendly with a hint of humor, because when analysed, writing
is no more than a written conversation.

Ok, now it’s time to ‘brain storm’ – sounds painful doesn’t it? Well it’s not. Begin by writing down all the subjects you know
something about, no matter how small. Start with any we’ve already mentioned above and include subjects like: horticultural,
carpentry, glass cutting, painting, needle patch work, collecting memorabilia, golf, darts, pet training, astrology, astronomy,
sleep walking, giving-up bad habits, smoking etc etc. Possible ‘How-To’ reports can be created from almost any subject.

Once you’ve made your list, go through the topic’s one at a time and keep going through them until you find one subject that you’re
really comfortable with, even if it’s not the one you originally knew most about. You see, that’s the one you’ll put your heart and soul
into, and that’s the one you’ll be most passionate about.

Now you’ve decided on the subject, the next step is thorough research. The library, magazines, books, newspapers, search
engines – anything that will give you information on your chosen subject. Gather this information based on your outlines we talked
about earlier. However, don’t get bogged down with a fixed set of outlines, they’re just a guide to the way you want to list or
discuss each aspect of your subject.

When you’ve finished with your first draft, be proud of yourself and take a break. Go back to it a few days later, rejuvenated.
Scrutinize it with a sharp pencil. Polish each paragraph for clarity, accuracy and flow. Make sure it’s easy to read, easy to
understand and each sentence follows the one before it. The smoother the writing of the report, the easier it will be to read
and the easier it will be to sell.

And finally, place your report in a .PDF file or a .EXE file for easy down-loading by your customers. Now go and make a
cup of tea while nimbling-up your research cells and writing fingers.
